It happens, that two nations, a small one and a great one, are suffering a similar tragedy. It's moving to receive a sign of your side, the sign of solidarity and sympathy with our victims, which are going to increase the incredible number of victims of the terrifying attacks you suffered some weeks ago.

We remained deeply touched by the words of cardinal Egan, he pronounced in an interview during this presence at the roman synod: "That all what we want is justice and not vengeance." I think he expressed exactly also the meaning of the Swiss people and the wishes of so many people that we don't want a new terrifying fight of warriors of different nations but a very well prepared and reflected action to combat against terrorism.

I hope, that the same words of your president, George W. Bush, are the expression of exactly this opinion of so many of Europeans, when he said that this fight against terrorism will take years and years.

Your Excellency, we are all touched by the expression of your solidarity, also we want to let know you that our deepest sympathy and solidarity which your church and your people as a sign of comfort and the daily effort to reconciliation shall be with you.
