WASHINGTON (June 18, 2003) -- "To better serve bookstores and trade accounts we have established a toll-free number and a website for the poetry of John Paul II, Roman Triptych: Meditations. The toll-free number is 1-866-JPIIPOEMS and the website is www.jpiipoems.org," announced Paul Henderson, executive director of USCCB Publishing.
Henderson also announced that the poetry of Pope John Paul II will be published September 5 in a limited first edition.
USCCB Publishing, the official publisher of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is the exclusive publisher of Roman Triptych in the United States. To be published in both English and Spanish, the hardcover book includes color artwork from the Vatican museums and several pages of the Pope's original handwritten text as well as an introduction and other special materials. An audio edition is also planned.
Widely regarded as his spiritual last testament, Roman Triptych: Meditations contains three new poems by Pope John Paul II, the first poems written and published during his pontificate. The Holy Father uses powerful images from nature, art, and Scripture as the framework for his "Roman Triptych"--a mountain stream, the Sistine chapel, and the story of Abraham and Isaac. Throughout the trio of poems, he reflects on God as the beginning and end of human life and all creation. He also ponders the beginning and end of his own reign as Pope.
Pope John Paul II will mark the 25th anniversary of his election as Pope on October 16. It is one of the longest pontificates in history and the most prolific. The Pope has issued 13 encyclicals, preached on five continents, released a prayer CD, and written several books.
