Full Text of Cardinal Law's Letter to President of Sony Music

January 15, 1997

Thomas D. Mottola
President
Sony Music, Inc.
550 Madison Ave.
New York, NY 10022-3211

Dear Mr. Mottola:

It has come to my attention that Sony Music is marketing an album of "Christmas music" to promote the continued legality of the killing of unborn children across the United States. Words nearly fail me. This mockery of Christmas is offensive to every Christian and to Christianity itself. In the very season in which Christians celebrate the birth of the infant Jesus and his mother Mary's "yes" to life under most difficult circumstances, Sony markets music promoting a right to destroy children before birth.

Sony's use of Christian music and one of the most sacred Christian holy days to raise funds for abortion is appalling. I intend to bring this to the attention of every Catholic bishop and to Catholic organizations across the country.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely yours,

Cardinal Bernard Law
Chairman, Committee for Pro-Life Activities
